Nearly 15 months ago, Detroit Lions great Barry Sanders suffered a heart attack.

Now, he's trying to make people aware of their health factors.

“I hope that people take advantage of simply having a conversation with their doctor to find out what their LDL-C number is — LDL-C is bad cholesterol,” Sanders told the Associated Press. “So many of us are impacted by heart disease. Hardly anyone is untouched when you think about a loved one, a friend, or a relative.”

After his heart attack,Sanders, 57, partnered with Amgen Inc., a biotech drug developer, to promote his new role as a heart health advocate through a documentary and interviews, AP reports.

He retired in 1999.
