As a safety measure, the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced Thursday that it has beefed up security at its two transit bus centers by adding more police and installing metal detectors.
The two centers are: the Rosa Parks Transit Center at Michigan and Cass Avenues in downtown Detroit, and the Jason Hargrove Transit Center at Woodward Avenue and Eight Mile Road.
"Increased DPD presence at the transit centers will ensure that Detroiters enjoy a safe riding experience within these transfer hubs and throughout the system," a press release said. "Combined with the metal detectors, which will be used to help ensure that no prohibited items are brought into the buildings, this multi-faceted security initiative prioritizes the safety of all riders."
“Safety is paramount on all DDOT buses and at all DDOT locations,” said Corie Holmes, DDOT's chief safety officer, in a statement. “These new initiatives ensure that riders are protected and feel safe at transit centers as well as on our coaches.”
